The best invoice app for a house cleaner who works alone

A fair comparison, with every price checked on the company's own page.

The short answer

If you clean alone and your clients already pay by Venmo, Cash App, PayPal or Zelle, you need a bill they can tap, a record of who paid, and no cut taken from each clean. Square and PayPal charge a fee on every card payment. Jobber and Housecall Pro are built for companies with crews. SnapPaid is built for one person: 3 free invoices, then $9.99 a month, and 0% of each payment. SnapPaid is our app, so weigh this page with that in mind.

What is the best invoice and payment app for a solo house cleaner?

The one that fits how you already get paid. Four questions decide it. Can your client pay in the app she already uses? Can you send the bill from your phone before you leave? Does it keep a record of who paid, per client? And can you carry its price in a slow month?

If you need scheduling for a team, look at ZenMaid or Jobber. If you want bookkeeping too, look at QuickBooks. If you clean alone and want to bill each clean and see who paid, SnapPaid was built for exactly that.

What this looks like

You are just starting out and want something light, not a team system.

Start with the smallest tool that sends a real bill and keeps a record. You can move to scheduling software when you hire. SnapPaid's first 3 invoices are free, so you can try it on real clients before paying anything.

Is there a free or cheap app to send cleaning invoices?

Square Invoices and PayPal Invoicing cost nothing a month, but they take a fee on every card payment. On a $150 clean, Square's free plan takes $5.25 when the client pays by card. Twenty such cleans in a month is $105 in fees.

SnapPaid costs $9.99 a month after 3 free invoices and takes nothing from each payment. Your client's payment app may still charge you, for example 1.9% + $0.10 on a Venmo business profile, while Zelle typically charges no fee. Every fee, side by side

What is the easiest app to text an invoice right after a job?

One that starts from the photo. In SnapPaid you snap the finished room, set the price, and send. The text goes from your own number, so it lands in the thread you already have with your client.

Is there an invoice app where clients pay with Venmo, Zelle, Cash App or PayPal, and it takes no cut?

Yes. SnapPaid puts your Venmo, Cash App and PayPal on the bill as buttons, and your Zelle email or number for her to copy. The money goes from her app to yours. SnapPaid never touches it and takes 0%.

One caution. Venmo's user agreement says personal accounts may not be used for business. A Venmo business profile charges 1.9% + $0.10 per payment. That fee is Venmo's, not SnapPaid's. Read Venmo's rules

Can I text an invoice link without the client downloading an app?

Yes. Your client taps the link and a page opens in her phone's browser with the photo, the amount and the pay buttons. Venmo, Cash App and PayPal open from a button. Zelle has no pay link that works for everyone, so the page shows your Zelle email or number for her to copy into her bank app.

Which app attaches photos of the finished clean to the bill?

In SnapPaid the photo is the bill: you snap first, and the photo sits at the top of what she receives, stamped with the time, plus the place when location is on. Invoice Simple also lets you attach photos on its $14.99 plan.

Is QuickBooks worth it for one person? What is simpler?

QuickBooks is bookkeeping: income, expenses and tax categories in one place. Simple Start is $38 a month after a $19 introductory price for 3 months. It is worth it if you want your books done there. You do not need it just to send a bill and see who paid.

Is Jobber or Housecall Pro worth it for one person?

They are strong tools for companies that schedule crews, quote jobs and dispatch workers. Jobber's Core plan is $49 a month billed monthly, for one user. Housecall Pro's Basic plan is $79 a month billed monthly. If you clean alone, most of what you pay for goes unused.

What this looks like
Jobber costs about $50 a month, for features you never use.
What to do

List what you actually use each week. If it is sending bills and checking who paid, a smaller tool does that.

What SnapPaid does

SnapPaid sends the bill with the photo, shows who paid and who is late, and keeps every clean per client, for $9.99 a month after 3 free invoices.

What it does not do

It does not schedule cleans, route your day, make quotes or manage a team. If you rely on those, keep the tool that does them.

Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, Square, cash or card: which is best?

For you, the cheapest is usually Zelle, which typically charges no fee and moves bank to bank. Venmo and Cash App are familiar to many clients but charge business accounts a fee. Square takes cards, at 3.3% + 30 cents on its free invoice plan. Cash costs nothing but leaves no record unless you write a receipt.

One simple setup is two methods: Zelle for clients who have it, and one app for those who don't. The full fee table

What this looks like

Every client wants to pay a different way.

Add each method once. Your bill shows all of them, and each client picks hers. You do not need a different message per client.

Do independent cleaners usually accept Zelle or credit cards?

We have no survey data on what most cleaners do, so we won't guess. What we can say is what each one costs you: Zelle typically nothing, cards a processing fee through whichever service takes them. SnapPaid does not process cards.

Can one app hold every client's bills and payments?

Yes, if it keeps a record per client and not just a list of payments.

What this looks like

You have ten regulars and want the bill, the payment and the record in one place.

In SnapPaid each client has a page with every clean, what she paid and what is still open. Your Home screen shows who owes you and how many days late it is.

What this looks like

You want to look more professional than a Venmo request.

Your logo and business name sit on every bill, receipt and pay page.

Where SnapPaid fits

Payment apps move money but send no bill, no reminder and keep no record. Business software does all of it, for a crew, at a crew's price. SnapPaid covers the four steps one cleaner needs.

  1. 1
    Finish and snap
Sealed with the time, and the place when location is on.
  2. 2
    Text one link
From your own number. Nothing for her to download.
  3. 3
    She pays in her app
Venmo, Cash App, PayPal or Zelle, straight to you.
  4. 4
    The record stays
Paid or open, per client, with the photo.

SnapPaid takes 0% of what she pays you. Your payment app may charge its own fees, for example on a Venmo business profile. Fees, explained.

Send your next bill before you leave.
First 3 invoices free. Then $9.99 a month. SnapPaid takes 0%.
